Many items of wall art also serve many functional uses.  Two items commonly recruited for double duty by householders are mirrors and clocks.  Both devices make attractive additions to any room decor. They also operate as functional items that serve practical purposes.

Wall mirrors are available in many colors, shapes, and styles. An especially popular option of recent years is black oak.  This contemporary style represents the ultimate crossroads between contemporary style and conventional tradition, and a black oval wall mirror will always be a classic.

The best news of all is that this stylish flair can be achieved with minimal expense. Mirror frames may be constructed of metal, wood, or plastic. Of all these choices, plastic involves the least maintenance. This is due to its scratch and fade-resistant tendencies. Even under direct sunlight, plastic generally retains its original color.

Wooden frames usually feature a lacquer coating with a black cast. This yields some protection against exterior damage, as well. Modern frames are not quite as decorative as those from yesteryear. Nonetheless, many such styles are of the “art deco” genre and have designs carved into their surface. Many of these frames are fluted or beveled to bolster the appearance of the enclosed mirror.

Maximum decorative effect is achieved with metal styles.  Wrought iron is a common metallic component used for frame construction.  Such oval mirrors are classical items that resemble Spanish styles of bygone eras. In such styles, the metal utilized is fashioned into curved strips of relatively thin width. These strips are then twisted together in various patterns to form the overall shape of the frame.

Wrought iron mirror frames weigh considerably more than those formed from plastic molds. Before installing any metal frame, insure that sufficient support is available from mounts and wall studs to adequately secure the mirror.

With proper preparation and good coordination of complimentary colors and styles, oval wall mirrors will make an excellent reflection on your personal interior decor tastes!
